Andreas N. Tarkmann has received a number of honours and awards for his work:
- Landespreis "Jugend musiziert" in the categories chamber music (wind quintet) and piano accompaniment (1972/73).
- "Kultursonderpreis der Stadt Hannover" for the promotion of gifted artists (1973)
- "Niedersächsisches Künstlerstipendium" for work in the field of composition and arrangement (1988)
- Scholarship at the "Cité Internationale des Arts Paris" (sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Art of Lower Saxony, 1989)
- "ECHO KLASSIK" for recordings with arrangements by Andreas N. Tarkmann (1994, 1996, 1998, 2004)
- "WoWo-Ring" of the Friedhelm-Kändler-Society Hanover for the musical settings of Kändler-poems (2005)
- "ECHO KLASSIK" ("Classical Music for Children" award): for the recording of two of his own compositions: “Na warte, sagte Schwarte“ (“The Pigs’ Wedding”) and “Die verlorene Melodie” (“The Lost Melody”) (2013)
- "LEOPOLD" Media Prize - "Quality Music for Children" for the recordings of "Zwerg Nase" ("Dwarf Nose") and "Das kalte Herz" ("The Cold Heart") (2019/20)
